FM Approved Fiberglass Cooling Tower for the Commercial Market at University of Texas at Austin
This four-cell FM Approved Phoenix® cooling tower project will support new chillers for the Hal C. Weaver Power Plant expansion at the University. The tower will be built on a site previously occupied by a wood tower that was removed. The project, called Cooling Tower No. 2, inherits much of its design from the CCS FM Approved tower erected in 2012 on the university’s Pickle Research Campus. The Phoenix was selected for a number of reasons, including performance, ease of access for maintenance and lifecycle cost. UT was so pleased with the Pickle tower project that they requested the same CCS Project Manager to oversee construction of Tower No. 2.
Principal entities on the project were Burns and McDonnell, Engineer; and Flintco Constructive Solutions, General Contractor.
